MEHITABLE RIGBY (bp. 1643–1680), daughter of John Rigby and Isabel Unknown

Nathaniel, the son of Humphrey Turner, was baptized on 10 March 1638/[9?] in Scituate. [1] He died on 31 January 1715 in Scituate. [1] He married first Mehitable Rigby on 29 March 1664/5 [!] in Scituate. [1] He married second the widow Abigail Stockbridge. Abigail, the wife of Nathaniel died in March 1709/10 in Scituate. [1] She married first Charles Stockbridge.

Mehitable Rigby, the daughter of John of Dorchester, was baptized on 23 April 1643 in Dorchester. [2] She died, presumably of complications from childbirth, on 22 March 1680 in Scituate. [1]

Mehitable is referred to as "Mehetabell Bigbee" in her marriage record. However, her baptismal record calls her "Mehitabell Rigby" and is annotated with "(to Mr. Turner of Scituate)." [2]

By a deed of 7: 4m: 1673, Humphrey Turner sold his farm and land to his son Nathaniel Turner of Scituate for 150 pounds. [3]

In September 1700 at the court of common pleas, Nathaniel of Scituate and Abigail, his wife, successfully sued Robert Barker and Isaac Barker in a matter involving a sawmill built by Charles Stockbridge. The defendants appealed unsuccessfully in March 1701. [4]

In December 1702 at the court of common pleas, Nathaniel sued Benjamin and Samuel Stockbridge for rents due to his wife from the estate of her late husband Charles Stockbridge, to be paid to her sons. The defendants successfully argued that the suit was invalid unless Abigail joined in it. [4]

i. Abigail Turner was born on 10 February 1666. She died in April 1689 in Scituate. [1]

Abigail was left a bequest in the will of her grandmother Isabel ( ) (Rigby) (Breck) Fisher.

ii. Captain Samuel Turner was born on 25 February 1671. He died on 3 November 1759 in Scituate. He married first Desire Barker. He married second Abigail (Gill) Leavitt.

iii. Mehitable Turner was born on 29 March 1673. She died on 22 June 1723 in Scituate. [1]

iv. Lydia Turner was born in August 1675. She married Captain John James on 25 June 1718 in Scituate. [1] John is probably the son of John James, who was born on 10 January 1676/7 in Scituate. [5] Captain John, the husband of Eunice, died on 28 September 1761, age 86, in Scituate. [5] He married first Eunice Stetson on 18 March 1700 in Scituate. [5] Eunice died on 29 August 1717, age 35, in Scituate. [5]

Captain Samuel Turner left a bequest to his sister Lydia James in his will of 21 May 1759. [6]

v. Unnamed Son Turner died on 22 March 1680 in Scituate; he had been born "about two weeks before". [1]
